Celebrating Alumni Success

We want to hear your success stories…

We are calling Australia Awards alumni from Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to share their success stories with us.

Up to 100 alumni with the best success stories will be supported to attend the 2019 Regional Alumni Workshop (RAW) in Colombo, Sri Lanka in November 2019.

The RAW  is  a great opportunity for alumni to present their work, share their experiences and successes with fellow alumni formally and informally, and build and strengthen relevant professional networks across the region by establishing Communities of Practice. This extends the alumni experience beyond national boundaries and offers an enhanced professional development aspect to alumni engagement.

Application deadline has been extended to 15 July 2019.

Applications are now open

Major activities during the 2019 Regional Alumni Workshop will be:

  • Professional development activities such as workshops and lectures on powerful story telling, personal branding, leading effective advocacy campaigns, using social media and technology, and understanding oneself as an instrument of change.
  • An exhibit and a story telling competition. The winner(s) will be given access to professional development funds/support for an informal learning opportunity, most likely to take place in Australia in the first half of 2020.
  • Networking activities.

In 2017, the RAW provided alumni with grants to implement innovative solutions to development issues, while in 2018, alumni implemented projects on environmental protection and climate action. Part of the prize package for the winning teams of the 2018 RAW was support to attend the Climate Reality Leadership Corps Training in Brisbane, led by former US Vice President AL Gore, in June 2019.

To apply for the 2019 RAW, send your complete application form to alumni@australiaawardssouthwestasia.org on or before 15 July 2019.

Who can apply

Application are open to Australia Awards alumni or groups of alumni from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Applicants must submit stories of successes achieved between 2015 and 2019 focusing on the development contributions of alumni and people-to-people (or institutional) links with Australia, facilitated by alumni or alumni groups.

How it works

Alumni submit their complete application form on or before 15 July 2019. These applications will be assessed and the top 10-15 entries from each country will be invited to attend the Regional Alumni Workshop in November, 2019 in Colombo.

Next steps

The winner(s) will be given access to professional development support focusing on an area related to their success story. Ideally, the activity will involve a mentor in Australia or a learning opportunity at an Australian institution, resulting in a partnership being formed between the alumni and an Australian organisation/expert.
