Short Courses & Australian Professional Opportunities

Australia Awards Short Courses are short-term training opportunities funded by the Australian Government.

The short-term training opportunities provided through Australia Awards Short Courses develop participants’ skills and knowledge and help them build networks to drive change and contribute to development in their home countries and regions.

Australia Awards – South Asia & Mongolia Short Courses are delivered throughout the year on specific topics related to key development challenges. Short Courses may be delivered in Australia, in the home country, in the region, online or across all of these locations. Short Course providers must be Australian Registered Training providers and/or Australian tertiary institutions, as defined in the Higher Education Support Act, 2003.

Australia Awards Short Courses are open to suitably qualified nationals of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Mongolia. Applications are encouraged from women, people with disability, people from ethnic minorities, people living in rural and remote areas, and members of socially and economically disadvantaged groups.

Each Short Course has specific objectives, target groups and eligibility criteria. Short Courses are available to suitably qualified nationals of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Mongolia. Eligibility criteria will be made clear for each Short Course when it is advertised.

Short Course opportunities may be listed on this site throughout the year, or they may be advertised through your employer. The application process for specific courses is made clear through listings and advertising.

Successful applicants will receive a notification from Australia Awards if they have been selected to participate in a Short Course.

Short Course participants are well supported throughout the period of the course. Support includes:

  • Full coverage of tuition fees
  • Paid accommodation and a stipend for courses in Australia or away from place of residence.
  • Return international airfare for courses in Australia including any domestic travel expenses to and from workshops or events.
  • Australian visa and health insurance for courses in Australia.

On completion of their studies, recipients of Australia Awards become part of the Australia Global Alumni network, connecting them to Australia, the region and each other – building an engaged and influential global network of leaders and advocates for development.

Australian Professional Opportunities

Australian Professional Opportunities (APOs) are learning and development activities funded by the Australian Government. Whether recipients are attending a conference organised by an international agency or undertaking a micro-credential at an Australian University, APOs provide ‘just in time’ support to Australian Government’s partners in the South Asia region and in Mongolia.
