Women in Leadership Regional Alumni Grants 2023

The Australian Government supports Australia Awards alumni contributions to the economic and social development of their home countries.

The overall objective of the Women in Leadership Regional Alumni Grants round is to support alumni as leaders for gender equity and women’s economic empowerment and build collaboration between alumni across Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

This grant is eligible for groups of alumni of different nationalities working together in different countries.  

More specifically, this grant aims to:

  • further alumni development goals in the applicants’ countries
  • build the leadership skills of female alumni and support them to put their ideas into action to create change
  • strengthen collaboration between alumni across Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and contribute to the regional Women in Leadership Network.
  • contribute to the achievement of Australia Awards Program outcomes, including Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI).

Grant funding

Each grant is worth up to AUD 3,000. A maximum of three grants will be offered.

To be considered for this grant, a group of alumni must:

  • be Australia Awards alumni of the DFAT-funded Australia Awards Scholarships, Australia Awards Fellowships, or Short Courses
  • be citizens of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, reside in their country of citizenship, and be intending to use the Women in Leadership Regional Grant in at least one of the eight countries mentioned above.
  • be members of the Women in Leadership Network in their country of residence or be willing to become members of the regional Women in Leadership Network.
  • agree to participate in a Fraud Management; Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI); Child Protection; and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment briefing prior to receiving the grant, and use and acquit the grant according to DFAT and Program guidelines

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Applications align with Australia’s Australia’s international support for gender equality,
  • Applications justify how the proposed activity will
    • positively contribute to the alumni’s development goals for their countries and the region, and how the grant will support gender equality and/or women’s empowerment
    • build or help to maintain alumni’s knowledge or skill
    • strengthen the Women in Leadership Network.

Applications demonstrate strategy in:

    • promoting gender equality, disability and social inclusion principles in activities to be implemented.
    • identifying the activity’s intended primary beneficiaries, providing estimates of numbers
    • using the grant funds in an innovative and cost-effective manner
    • designing activity sustainability and transfer of knowledge or skill
    • maintaining or enhancing linkages with Australian and/or local institutions
