On 14 June Australia’s Ambassador to Nepal, HE Felicity Volk, launched the book A Celebration of Alumni Impact in South Asia, at a reception during the Australia Awards – South Asia & Mongolia Regional Alumni Workshop.  The book combines striking imagery and stories from more than 40 alumni stories from the region from the last several years.

The featured alumni outline, in their own words, the impact that their Australia Awards experience had on them and how it had influenced their development work since returning to their home countries.  As one of the featured alumni, Thakur Thapa Magar of Nepal, said of his Scholarship experience “It was a game changer.  It opened my eyes…I could see things differently after this wonderful experience in Australia.”

Reflecting the priorities of the Australia Awards in South Asia, the alumni featured in the book are grouped according to the following themes:

  • Strengthening communities and advancing human development
  • Safeguarding environments and improving lives
  • Promoting stability and supporting good governance
  • Sustaining livelihoods and advancing economic development.

In launching the book, Ambassador Volk said it was “a wonderful representation of both the Australia Awards program and, most importantly, stories of personal growth and extraordinary achievement.”

Copies of the book have been provided to Australian Embassies and High Commissions across the region.
